Single-layer vs double-layer nozzles
One orifice, or an orifice plus an outer gas path. The layer is not the diameter and it is not the tip size.
| Layer | Gas | Material |
|---|---|---|
| Single | Nitrogen or air | Stainless, aluminum |
| Double | Oxygen | Mild steel |
A single-layer nozzle has one chamber and one orifice. A double-layer nozzle adds an outer path that shapes the assist gas around that orifice. The pairing above is what job shops usually run. It is not a recipe for your pressure, focus, or plate thickness.
Shop the D28 and D32 lists, which include both layers. The size chart shows which row is which.
Can I run oxygen through a single-layer nozzle?
Shops sometimes do. The usual pairing is still single-layer for nitrogen or air on stainless and aluminum, and double-layer for oxygen on mild steel. If your current process uses the other pairing, copy the nozzle you already run instead of switching because a page said so.
Does the layer change the price?
On our D28 and D32 list, double-layer 10-packs sit at the top of the $19.90 to $22.90 band and single-layer 10-packs sit at or under that. The exact price is on the product.
